Costs

What does a booking system for a holiday home cost?

Booking systems for holiday rentals in the Netherlands run to roughly 20 to 50 euros a month. Pay close attention to what is not in there: many systems also charge per booking, per calendar link or per email sent. Vakantiemodule works with a fixed monthly amount from 19 euros, and that covers everything.

Are there costs per booking?

No. The monthly amount is everything. No transaction costs, no percentage of your revenue, no cost per guest and no cost per email. A hundred bookings cost the same as ten.

What does it cost if I have more properties?

One property is 19 euros a month, up to three properties 29 euros, up to ten properties 49 euros. More than ten is bespoke, so send us an email. All prices exclude VAT.

Am I tied in?

You pay a year in advance and that year simply runs out. There is no automatic renewal locking you in and no multi-year contract. If you stop, you export your data in one click.

On your website

Do I need to have my website rebuilt?

No. You paste one line of code where the module should appear. That works on WordPress, Wix, Squarespace and anything else that accepts HTML. Nothing else about your site has to change.

Will the module suit my house style?

Yes. You give it your accent colour and the module takes it on. The rest stays neutral, so it does not clash with your site. It works the other way round too: the styling of your site cannot break the module, because it renders in its own shielded layer.

I have no website at all. Can I still join?

Yes. Every property gets its own booking page with its own web address that you can share anywhere, in your Instagram bio for instance, or under an advert. If you want a website of your own later, the module slides straight into it.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, and that is not a detail: most of your guests are looking at a phone. The module is designed just as well for that as for a laptop.

Can German or English guests book too?

Yes. The module speaks Dutch, German, English and French. By default it follows the language of your guest's browser, and your guest can switch with the button at the top. The emails that follow, from confirmation to cancellation, are in the same language. One thing to know: the text you write yourself, such as your house rules and the description of your place, stays exactly as you typed it. We do not translate that for you.

Airbnb, Booking.com and your calendar

Can I keep using Airbnb and Booking.com?

Yes, and early on we would recommend it. Vakantiemodule does not replace those platforms, it adds a channel of your own where you hand over no commission. The more bookings you bring in through your own site, the less commission you lose.

How do I avoid double bookings?

Vakantiemodule fetches linked calendars every fifteen minutes. A booking on Airbnb or Booking.com is blocked in your own calendar too. You can feed the Vakantiemodule calendar back to the platform. That cuts the risk of double bookings considerably.

How quickly does that synchronise?

Vakantiemodule fetches external calendars every fifteen minutes. How quickly Airbnb or Booking.com processes the Vakantiemodule calendar is decided by the platform itself. Around a new booking there is therefore always a small window.

I work from a spreadsheet or a paper diary at the moment.

You are certainly not the only one. The Vakantiemodule calendar is on your phone as well and shows your guest straight away which days are free. Blocking days by hand works exactly as you would expect, for instance when you are staying there yourself for a weekend.

Requests and payment

Does a guest book straight away, or send a request?

By default they send a request. With a holiday home you usually want to know who is coming, so you judge every request and put it on hold with an expiry date, or you turn it down. You decide who stays.

How do my guests pay?

For now you send a payment request or an invoice yourself, exactly as you do today. The module keeps track per booking of what is outstanding, when it was paid and what the status is. Paying online directly is planned, but we will only switch it on once it is right from end to end.

Does my guest get a message automatically?

Yes. At every step your guest gets a tidy email with the number of guests, the total and the next step. You get a message the moment a request comes in, with a link to your dashboard. There is no charge for any of that.

Can I set seasonal rates and discounts?

Yes. High and low season, a minimum number of nights, cleaning costs and tourist tax are set per property. Discount codes for regular guests or a last minute offer take a minute to arrange.

Data and trust

Who owns my guests' data?

You do. You are the data controller for what comes in through your booking form; we process it on your behalf. We sell nothing on and we do not use your guest list for anything else. You export everything in one click.

Who is behind Vakantiemodule?

Vakantiemodule is a product of 072DESIGN. From Sint-Pancras in the Netherlands we have been building and running websites for small businesses for more than twenty years. The module is developed and maintained by that same team.

What if you stop?

You can export your data and your own website stays yours. So for your website and your relationship with your guests you are not dependent on Vakantiemodule.

Is there support?

Yes. Support runs through info@vakantiemodule.nl, in English or Dutch, from someone who knows the product. You usually have an answer within a day.
